My tips for finding and working with UGC for TikTok
I've worked with many user-generated content creators in the past few months and have noticed a significant gap in professionalism. Here are some tips for turning a one-time collaboration into a long-term partnership:
- Pay attention to small details when communicating by email or DM: do you reply promptly, seem excited about the product, and write in a professional manner?
- When it comes to the contract: do you provide your own contract (a sign of professionalism) or wait until after the product has been sent to raise issues about payment for more than a month of usage?
- When deciding to work together: do you ask questions about our expectations and what should be included/excluded in the video, or do you just not seem to care? Do you work closely with us to create the content or just passively wait for a brief or insist on complete creative freedom?
- When you receive the product: do you keep us updated on its status or do we need to follow up after the tracking shows it was received? Do you respect the agreed-upon deadline or miss it (if so, we will not work with you again)? Do you send the video ahead of schedule or on time? Does the first attempt follow our guidelines or did you forget some instructions?
- When you send the first preview: do you ask for our opinion and whether we want any changes, or just drop it off with no further communication? Is the music appropriate for the video or is it the same as in all your videos?
- When you send the final video: is the quality good and do you take the necessary steps to provide a high-definition or 4K video? Does it meet the agreed-upon duration and use appropriate music (e.g., not copyrighted if we plan to use it for ads or on a business account)? Have you put effort into the video or does it seem like it took you just 15 minutes to film and edit?
- For payment: do you add unexpected extras or include clauses in the contract that were not previously discussed? Do you provide an invoice?
- After payment is made: do you follow up on the performance of the video and ask if we want to work with you again? Do you work with a competitor?
